Richter stars in Dracula X: Rondo of Blood for the PC Engine (and soon to be PSP!), and Castlevania: Dracula X here in the states for the SuperNES. He is a co-star in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, and makes a special unlockable appearance with Maria in Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin.

Richter's History-
**spoiler warning**
Richter is a dedicated and strong young man, tearing into the scene in Dracula X. His early appearace had an anime-ish look to it, sporting a Ryu-inspired
headband and ripped-off sleeves, but was well supported with the still images of the game. In Symphony of the Night he appears more rugged and jaunty,
fitting a little bit more into the time period (in my opinion). He is the first Belmont to utilize "item crashes," which is basically a "final form"
of the subweapon, doing massive damage to the enemies onscreen.
Dracula X: Rondo of Blood (originally for PC Engine in Japan) is the game that Richter Belmont first made his appearance. It was ported (poorly) to the US as Dracula X on the SNES, and is the direct prequel to Symphony of the Night. The 3d-rendered remake of Dracula X is coming to the PSP very soon, and should be just as good (if not better, since Ayami Kojima's work is in it) as the PC Engine version. Richter is a hidden playable character for the Playstation version of Symphony of the Night, and playable from the beginning in the Sega Saturn version of Symphony. He and Maria are also unlockables for Portrait of Ruin.
In Dracula X, Richter sets out to rescue the four village women kidnapped by Dracula. One of them is his girlfriend/fiancee, Annette, and another is Annette's younger sister, Maria. The game allows a limited amount of exploration, and it is possible to rescue all or none of the girls when going to face Dracula and rescue Annette.
In Symphony of the Night, Richter has mysteriously dissappeared under a full moon, and Maria has resolved to go a find him. Alucard has awoken from his
self-imposed slumber, and seeks to destroy the castle of his father. Alucard and Maria meet, and Alucard learns that Richter has been seduced to the
dark side. Tainted by evil, Richter believes that if he can resurrect Dracula their battle will go on forever and he will always be needed. Alucard
is forced to fight him. Maria helps Alucard by giving him a special item that lets him see past the possession, and enables him to defeat Richter
without killing him. Maria runs out to Richter's aid while Alucard descends deeper into the castle after the real villians.
At the end of the game, Richter counts Alucard as a friend, and encourages Maria to chase after him.
