+ The Music of Symphony of the Night +

Symphony of the Night is, in many's opinion, one of the greatest games to come along in a long time. It essentially re-made the Castlevania franchise into what it is today (the wildly popular "Castleroid" layout) but you didn't come here to read up about the game, you came for the music.

The music is composed by Michiru Yamane, a very talented woman. One of her biggest projects was Symphony of the Night, which she did a lot of sound effects for, as well as the music. She started working with Konami with "Bloodlines" on the Sega Genesis, and it just got better from there.

The Symphony of the Night soundtrack, is hands down, the best Castlevania music there is. From heavy metal guitars, somber gothic choirs, jazzy eclectic mixes, and a host of others, this game weaves them all together in a beautiful journey through the bowels of Dracula's castle. I'm most fond of the music's classical roots given new life with electric guitars and rock overtones. Moody, haunting, atmostpheric... I could go on and on. I have a really hard time pinning down my favorite songs, mainly because I love them all!! Though I think my absolute favorites rest with "Prologue", "Dance of Gold", "Prayer", "Nocturne" only on the album, "Requiem For The Gods", and "I Am the Wind". I am a big fan of "I Am the Wind," but I know that there are a lot of people who aren't fond of it. Igarashi (the director) wanted to give the players something nice and relaxing to listen to after they beat the game, and this wistful, light jazz song does just that. "Dance of Pales" is also an excellent song. (See?? Too many!!)

Anyway, without furthur ado, here is the album information and track listing. It unfortunately was never released in the States (more's the pity), but is fairly easy to get regardless.
